The new Ballet film "A Beautiful Tragedy" The film follows the star student Oksana Skorik at the Perm State Ballet school in Russia. The full feature documentary film will be finished by the end of 2007. The film is the 2nd film by Irish film director David Kinsella. The sequence shown is of Oksana dreaming of being free. Yes but these girls are at a school to become prima ballerinas in the Russian Ballet that is why it is so strict.

But ballet really does keep off the weight if you do enough, but I eat too much crap hahaha!

does anyone else find the treatment of these girls absolutely appalling? it’s unhealthy for them. and do these girls really want to dance themselves to the brink of exhaustion, maybe even death? i am a dancer, 5’2, and 98 pounds. i eat an unbelievable amount of food for my size, yet i stay thin because of my naturally high metabolism. i love to dance, and i am not put under nearly as much pressure as these poor girls…

i am a ballet dancer and i’m only 5’2″ and weight 105lbs and im pretty good, i might not be perfect at it but i have good skills. i think being a great ballet dancer is not about being tall and skinny or doing perfect moves with perfect posture is about your passion for dancing and loving every single step and move you make.

kmarie42 is correct… ballerina is a title to be earned… any one can say they are ballet dancers… you must work hard to become a ballerina… then prima ballerina… then prima ballerina assoluta… of which there has only ever been two

Look it up….I’m sorry but you are wrong. Ballet dancer and ballerina are two entirely different things.

I agree. Most people do not realize that ballerina is a title for a female principle dancer in a company. So not only do you have to be doing it professionally, you have to be one of the top female dancers in a company. It really bothers me when people say they are ballerinas.
